Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been confirmed the new Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The former Nigerian Finance Minister was confirmed by the organization’s Special General Council on Monday, February 15, 2021 at 14:00 hours Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT).

Her appointment as the new WTO boss, makes her the first woman and African woman to occupy the coveted position.

Ms Okonjo-Iweala’s first term begins on March 1, 2021.

BREAKING: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from Nigeria is appointed as the next WTO Director-General.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala makes history as the first woman and the first African to lead the WTO.

Her term starts on the 1st of March 2021.
