OSP commence investigations into corruption-related cases at Customs Division
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced its intention to commence investigations into corruption-related offences at the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Investigations into corruption-related offences, the OSP noted in a statement on Monday, August 22, 2022, will date back to July 1, 2016 to August 15, 2022.
Mainly, investigations to be conducted by the OSP will centre on auctioned vehicles and other goods within the stated period.
In view of that, the OSP has directed the Customs Division to immediately halt and discontinue all auction sales till investigations are concluded and make available for its investigations, pertinent documents detailing the quantity of all auctioned items, the prices at which the items were auctioned, the date of each auction sales, among others.
The directive from the OSP comes on the back of the Labianca exposé by the OSP and the subsequent retrieval of over GHS 1m in unpaid customs duties by the company with the express approval of the Customs Division of the GRA.
