Passenger Arrivals at Accra International Airport Rise 8.7% YoY
Passenger arrivals at the Accra International Airport recorded a year-on-year increase of 8.7 percent to 110,087 in January 2026, according to the March 2026 Monetary Policy Report released by the Bank of Ghana.
This compares with 101,237 arrivals recorded in January 2025, pointing to a gradual recovery in international travel demand.
On a month-on-month basis, however, arrivals through the international airport and land borders declined by 18.9 percent, reflecting a slowdown following heightened travel activity in December.
Ports and harbours record annual growth
Activity at Ghana’s key ports also strengthened on an annual basis, underpinned by increased trade volumes.
Combined container traffic at the Port of Tema and Port of Takoradi rose by 13.6 percent year-on-year to 74,508 in January 2026, compared to 65,594 recorded in the same period of 2025.
Despite the annual growth, total container traffic declined by 9.8 percent on a month-on-month basis from 82,624 recorded in December 2025, indicating a moderation in trade activity at the start of the year.
The data highlights a mixed performance across Ghana’s transport and trade sectors, with both aviation and port activities showing resilience on a yearly basis but easing in the short term.
