Leadership of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, has set the cost of a PCR Covid-19 test for ECOWAS nationals travelling within the region at a maximum amount of $50.
This is according to a communique issued by the Commission after the 58th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held on January 23, 2021 via a video conference.
The directive by the ECOWAS Commission, implies that going forward, West African nationals arriving at Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport (KIA) would be exempted from paying the mandatory $150 dollars PCR Covid test directed by the Ghanaian government and would only be paying $50.
With a test fee of $150 at KIA, Ghana has one of the highest Covid-19 test fees in the world.
Several arriving flight passengers at KIA including high profile persons like the Secretary General of the African Development Bank, Professor Vincent Nmehielle, have lamented over the high cost of testing and called on the government to have the test fee reduced.
With the reduction of the PCR Covid-19 test to $50, this will be good news to ECOWAS nationals arriving in Ghana.
