Play your hearts out for Ghana- Vice President Bawumia charges Black Stars
The Vice President Dr Mamudu Bawumia has shared his optimism ahead of the Black Stars World cup opener against Portugal tomorrow.
He believes Ghana can make a significant impact at the tournament despite going into the 2022 World Cup as the lowest-ranked side according to the FIFA rankings that was released in September.
The Stars kick off their World Cup campaign on Thursday against Portugal, in a rematch of their last World Cup game back in 2014 where the Stars lost by 2-1.
The resilience shown in the Stars’ performance in their 2-0 win over Switzerland which was part of preparations for the tournament has sparkled a sense of urgency in most Ghanaians.
In a video posted on social media, Dr. Bawumia reiterated the fact that the talented squad has enough quality to compete at the World Cup.
“The moment has come for the Black Stars to take on the world. We have a group of talented players who have been selected and they cannot be intimidated by anyone. I want to urge the Black Stars to go on play their hearts out for Mother Ghana,” he said.
The Vice President also urged the team to “play their hearts out”.
“We can stun the world, we have done it before and we can do it again. They should go out and emulate the historic deeds of their predecessors. God bless you all. We can do it. Go Ghana Go! Go Black Stars go,” he said.
Ghana was one of the underdogs in their first World campaign in Germany 2006 but managed to reach the Round of 16 where they eventually lost to Brazil.
The Black Stars will go on to make more history at the 2010 edition in South Africa where they became the only the third African county to reach the quarterfinals losing on penalties to Uruguay.
