Power Outage: WAPCo dispels misinformation, clarifies gas supply issue
The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has responded to recent press releases from Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana, correcting the narrative surrounding the gas supply issue that contributed to the power challenge experienced in parts of the country.
WAPCo firmly asserts that it did not encounter any technical issues and that its facilities have been and continue to be fully operational, capable of delivering gas as required.
Highlighting their operational model, WAPCo emphasizes that gas transportation is conducted based on agreements with Gas shippers, who purchase gas from Gas suppliers and transport it through WAPCo pipelines to sell to Gas Offtakers, primarily power companies. WAPCo’s role is to dutifully transport the agreed-upon volume of gas to the shippers’ customers.
In clarifying the events of the power cuts, WAPCo points out that the challenge arose from the shutdown of the Ghana National Gas Company’s Atuabo plant, leading to unavailability of gas for transportation through WAPCo’s infrastructure.
WAPCo, by setting the record straight in its statement, seeks to rectify any misconceptions regarding their role in the gas supply disruption. The company stands firm in its commitment to efficiently transport gas as per agreements with gas shippers, ensuring a reliable supply to support Ghana’s power generation needs.
