President Akufo-Addo Assents to Ghana Shippers’ Authority Act 2024
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has signed into law the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) Act 2024, which was passed by Parliament on July 29, 2024.
The landmark legislation formally assented to on October 18, 2024, aims to strengthen the GSA’s regulatory mandate, positioning Ghana as a competitive and fair hub for commercial shipping.
This new Act empowers the GSA to regulate operations across all modes of transport, including sea, air, and land.
The legislation comes at a symbolic moment coinciding with the GSA’s 50th anniversary, and reflecting its evolution from the Ghana Shippers’ Council in 1974 to the Ghana Shippers’ Authority in 1998 with a broader mandate.
With this strengthened oversight, the GSA seeks to ensure fairness, transparency in pricing, and efficiency in the shipping and logistics sectors, ultimately enhancing Ghana’s appeal for international trade.
