Reports have it that, the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) Board of Directors have reached a decision concerning the impasse between staff of GACL and Managing Director, Yaw Kwakwa.
The decision reached by the board will later be communicated to the Minister of Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda for onward presentation to President Akufo-Addo who will take a final decision on the matter.
Staff of GACL on Tuesday, October 6, adorned the premises of GACL with red colours to demand the immediate dismissal of Mr Kwakwa, accusing him of mismanagement, gross incompetence, insensitivity and lack of understanding of the Aviation Industry.
A petition submitted to the Minister for Aviation, Joseph Adda, also accused Mr Kwakwa of outsourcing key aspects of the company’s operations at exorbitant costs despite the availability of in-house capacity.
The Minister reacting to the petition prior to the short protest embarked on by workers of GACL on Tuesday, stated that workers of GACL cannot decide who the comapny’s MD should be as that is the sole prerogative of the president.
“The fact of the matter remains that the workers cannot decide who should be the MD, they cannot appoint; they present their views and I pass it on to the president. The president will say, ‘Look, this merits a dismissal, this merits a promotion, this merits a disciplinary action; or, they are not right with what they are doing, or they are not being fair, and give the reason why they are not being fair,” he noted.
