President Mahama Appoints Aaron Kanor as Acting Commissioner of Customs Division
President John Mahama has appointed Mr. Aaron Kanor as Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), with immediate effect.
Mr. Kanor is a seasoned Customs officer with more than 30 years of extensive experience in revenue mobilisation, border protection and trade facilitation within the GRA. His appointment reflects a long-standing career marked by professionalism, integrity and strong operational leadership in public service.
Before his elevation, Mr. Kanor served as Officer-in-Charge of Port Operations, where he supervised key Customs activities, including enforcement of customs regulations, revenue assurance and the facilitation of legitimate trade. His tenure in that role contributed to enhanced border security frameworks and improved compliance across Ghana’s international trade corridors.
Throughout his career, he has occupied several senior leadership positions nationwide, including Sector Commander at the Kotoka International Airport and Wa Collections, as well as Chief Revenue Officer in multiple operational jurisdictions. In these capacities, he led intelligence-driven operations that disrupted smuggling networks, exposed invoice under-declaration practices and dismantled criminal rings involved in vehicle identity manipulation. These interventions supported stronger revenue outcomes and reinforced national security.
Mr. Kanor has also been a key contributor to Customs modernisation efforts, playing a role in the rollout of electronic valuation systems and other strategic initiatives aimed at boosting efficiency and reducing cargo clearance times. His work has helped align Ghana’s Customs administration with global best practices while supporting smoother trade flows.
His appointment is expected to further strengthen Customs administration, deepen compliance and support economic growth through a more efficient and secure trade environment, injecting renewed focus and direction into the Customs Division.
The Board, Management and staff have congratulated Mr. Kanor on his appointment and expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commissioner of Customs, Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, for his leadership and service to the Division.
