President Mahama Says GHS 6 Billion Back in Ghanaians’ Pockets Thanks to Fiscal Reforms in 2025
President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that his administration’s fiscal reforms have returned roughly GHS 6 billion to ordinary Ghanaians, describing the initiative as a critical step toward alleviating economic pressures and reinforcing stability.
Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Accra, President Mahama explained that the gains are the result of the government’s “Reset Agenda”, a set of focused fiscal and economic measures aimed at stabilising public finances, lowering the cost of living, and restoring confidence in the economy.
He noted that the reforms extend beyond broad economic adjustments and are having a tangible impact on household finances.
“Our measures have not only steadied the economy; they have placed real money back into the hands of everyday Ghanaians,” he told Parliament. “We estimate that the fiscal interventions and tax relief policies we have introduced have unlocked GHS 6 billion in disposable income for households nationwide.”
The President further explained that a combination of careful expenditure management, revenue restructuring, and targeted tax breaks has contributed to the extra funds now accessible to families and businesses.
He also highlighted positive trends in major economic indicators, pointing out that inflation has fallen significantly and overall macroeconomic stability has been restored. These improvements, he said, are steadily enhancing purchasing power and supporting the nation’s economic recovery.
President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to sustaining these reforms, emphasising that the government remains committed to protecting livelihoods, fostering inclusive growth, and building long-term economic resilience.
