Preview of World Cup Qualifier match between Ghana and Zimbabwe
Ghana will host Zimbabwe at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Saturday, looking for their second win in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Following their matchday one victory over Ethiopia, the Black Stars were dramatically beaten 1-0 by South Africa.
The Black Stars sit behind South Africa in Group G with three points while Zimbabwe is at the bottom with just a point, having failed to win any of their games and managing only a draw against South Africa.
Ghana has won exactly half of their previous six clashes with Zimbabwe, losing just once with that defeat coming in their last encounter in January 2006 during the African Cup of Nations.
The team sheet is green for coach Milovan Rajevac as Crystal Palace star Jordan Ayew returns to the squad together with Arsenal midfield dynamo Thomas Teye Partey.
On the other side, prolific striker Knowledge Musona will lead the line for Zimbabwe once again and will be a threat together with midfield specialist Khama Billiat to the Ghanaian defence with the former bagging 23 goals in just 47 games for the Warriors.
A projected starting eleven for both teams will be Ghana as usual with the 4-2-3-1 formation: Lawrence Ati-Zigi; Mohammed Kudus, Jonathan Mensah, Alexander Djiku, Gideon Mensah; Iddrisu Baba, Thomas Partey; Yaw Yeboah, Majeed Ashimeru, André Ayew and Jordan Ayew.
Zimbabwe will also go with their 4-4-2 formation: Washington Arubi; Perfect Chikwende, Teenage Hadebe, Alec Mudimu, Brendan Galloway; Blessing Sarupinda, Thabani Kamusoko, Marshall Munetsi, Khama Billiat; Knowledge Musona and Knox Mutizwa.
The Black Stars have not played well in their two games especially in the loss to South Africa and will be looking to bounce back from that defeat with the arrival of Jordan Ayew.
Zimbabwe will also will be hoping to secure away points and have some good attacking options in Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona and so the match promises a fascinating encounter with plenty of goal-mouthering action at the Cape Coast Stadium.
