Prez Akufo-Addo accepts Alan Kyeremanten’s resignation; Finance Minister to act as caretaker
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has accepted the resignation from office of Mr Alan Kyerematen as Minister for Trade and Industry.
This was after Mr Kyerematen, on Thursday, January 5, 2022 informed the President personally of his decision to resign, and subsequently submitted his letter of resignation to him.
A statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at Office of the President said President Akufo-Addo thanked Mr Kyerematen for his services to his government and to the country, and wished him well in his future endeavours.
According to the statement, the President has asked the Minister for Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, to act as caretaker Minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, until a substantive appointment is made.
Mr Alan resigned to prepare for the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries later in the year.
Mr Ofori-Atta’s appointment as Caretaker Minister for the Trade Ministry comes as a shock to many, as Ghanaians least expected the Finance Minister to be made-in-charge of the Ministry, particularly given perceptions of how badly he has managed the economy in his capacity as the Finance Minister.
