Prosper Narteh responds to calls to be given Black Stars head coach job

Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prosper Narteh Ogum says he will grab the opportunity to lead the Black Stars should he become available to be the main man to lead the senior national team.

The local Black Stars Assistant coach had been mentioned on a number of occasions by former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe as one of the candidates to be considered for the Black Stars coaching role prior to the appointment of a new technical team after the exit of Milovan Rajevac.

“I will suggest that we give it to a local coach, in the person of the trainer of Asante Kotoko, Dr Prosper Ogum,” the former FA boss said on GTV Sports Plus last week in a discussion on football administration.

Dr Ogum has been a great addition to Kumasi Asante Kotoko since arriving at the club for the start of the 2021/22 season racking up 11 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses from 16 league games.

He oversaw his side beat Accra Lions in their last home game of the first round of the season at the Baba Yara Stadium with a 3-1 scoreline over the weekend, picking up momentum for the Super clash against eternal rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

Quizzed in his post-match interview about what he made of the suggestion by Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, the Kotoko gaffer said,

“I think probably he sat from afar and he seeing what I’m doing, per his astuteness…I mean we know him to be following football over decades, I mean so many years as a seasoned football administrator.

“So I think per his experience and what he is seeing about me and being there as a former FA president and with the Black Stars and knowing the dynamics of what goes in at the Black Stars, probably that is making him take that informed decision about me,” he added.

Kotoko currently occupy the first position on the Ghana Premier League table, sitting 12 points adrift defending champions Hearts of Oak who they face in an outstanding game this Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium to round off the first round of matches in the 2021/2022 season.
