PSG Outclass Arsenal to Secure Champions League Final Berth Against Inter Milan
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) triumphed over Arsenal with a 2-1 victory in a thrilling Champions League semi-final second leg at the Parc des Princes, sealing their place in the final. The win, which gave PSG a 3-1 aggregate score, denied Arsenal their first Champions League final appearance since 2006.
Despite carrying a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, PSG faced an early onslaught from Arsenal. Declan Rice missed a close-range header just three minutes in, and PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced into spectacular saves to deny Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli.
Arsenal’s inability to capitalize on their early dominance proved costly. In the 27th minute, Fabian Ruiz unleashed a stunning strike from the edge of the box, aided by a deflection, to put PSG ahead on the night.
The game remained open, with both teams creating opportunities. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya kept his team’s hopes alive by saving a second-half penalty from Vitinha, awarded after a VAR review spotted a handball by Myles Lewis-Skelly. However, Achraf Hakimi’s superb finish from the edge of the box with less than 20 minutes remaining appeared to extinguish Arsenal’s chances.
Bukayo Saka ignited a glimmer of hope for Arsenal, scoring in the 76th minute following excellent play by substitute Leandro Trossard. However, Saka later missed a crucial opportunity in the 80th minute, effectively ending Arsenal’s comeback aspirations.
The final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations among the PSG players and fans as they secured their spot in the Champions League final, where they will face Internazionale on May 31.
