Qatar Airways’ World Cup anthem gets 21 million youTube views
Qatar Airways has released the official anthem for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The anthem known as “C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N.S.” was released in a music video on the airline’s YouTube channel, and has received 21 million views since being released five days ago. The airline hopes the anthem will excite fans while promoting its services.
The official anthem is a production designed to help unite soccer fans around the globe. The video features people of varying backgrounds and teams from various countries to portray unity to excite all fans. The song’s lyrics are a blend of French, English, and Arabic.
It was performed by two international music sensations, DJ Rodge and Cheb Khaled. The video is being played on all Qatar Airways flights arriving in Qatar during the World Cup.
The CEO of Qatar Airways Group, Akbar Al Baker, stated the following concerning the anthem, “We’re dedicating the song “C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N.S.” to those fans and to people everywhere which we think captures the excitement that FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ represents to this country and region.”
The video has already been seen by millions and will likely be seen by millions more on Qatar flights and by other fans attending the tournament. Like many other World Cup sponsors, the airline hopes the event’s publicity will positively impact future operations, with more people choosing to fly with them versus their competitors.
The 21 million views the video has is impressive; however, it falls short of previous World Cup anthems. While the tournament is only beginning, and many will surely see the video in the coming weeks, the song does not seem to be a smash hit compared to the 2010 World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka” by Shakira, which has over 3 billion views on YouTube. Despite this shortcoming, “C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N.S.” may still be successful in exciting millions of soccer fans while promoting Qatar Airways.
Qatar Airways has launched another unique World Cup-themed campaign along with the anthem. Through year’s end, passengers can expect to find complimentary pre-departure waiting areas known as Passenger Overflow Areas (POA) at Doha International Airport (DIA) and Hamad International Airport (HIA). At the POAs, passengers may stow baggage, relax, and dine. Access to the POAs is available 24 hours a day and requires the passengers to check in online four to eight hours before departure.
Qatar Airways claims the lounges will set a new standard for excellence for passengers traveling to sporting events. Akbar Al Baker stated,
“Qatar Airways is all about offering global passengers the best experiences the industry has to offer. Passenger Overflow Areas will accommodate thousands of fans at any given time at our world class airports.”
The Chief Operations Officer of HIA, Badr Mohammed Al Meer, added the following concerning the POAs,
“The commencement of the passenger overflow area at both HIA and DIA will offer our visitors a remarkable chance to experience the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ at dedicated premises. Curated for all departing passengers, the overflow area is part of MATAR’s initial airport operations plan set to improve overall flow at both airports and accommodate thousands of visitors at any given time throughout the tournament.”
