Republic Bank refurbishes AU Square

Republic Bank Ghana, a subsidiary of Republic Financial Holdings limited has refurbished the Africa Union Square located at the Independence Avenue, Ridge in Accra.

The refurbished AU Square was commissioned on Friday, January 28, 2022 during the official commissioning of the Republic Court Building in Accra.

Speaking on the rationale of the adoption and refurbishment of the AU Square, the Managing Director of Republic Bank. Mr. Farid Antar said the refurbishment of the AU Square is in line with the Bank’s CSR strategy of supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on Climate Action (SDG 13) and the Bank’s vision for Africa.

“Our long-term vision is to establish an African presence headquartered in Ghana. No better place for Republic Court to be situated than near the iconic Africa Union Square. Whenever we look across the street, we just do not see AU Square, we see hope, our African dream and in pursuit of this dream, we have adopted the AU Square for greening, maintenance and beautification,” he said.

The opening of the refurbished AU Square was done by the Special Advisor to the President of the Republic of Ghana – Hon. Yaw Osafo-Maafo. In his remarks, he acknowledged and appreciated Republic Bank’s partnership in the beautification project of Accra with the adoption of the African Union Square for greening and maintenance.

“This Square is a symbolic representation of Ghana’s commitment to African Unity and Pan-Africanism. Evidently, I can see lots of progress at the AU Square. Thank you for supporting the agenda and showing love to Ghana. The upliftment of this important site will also uplift our spirits in pursuit of our ‘African Unity’, Hon. Osafo-Maafo added.

Speaking on the adoption of the AU Square, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey also commended the Bank for the gesture and applauded the Management team for partnership to green and make Accra City Clean.

“As you know, I am a campaigner of a cleaner and an orderly city of Accra. Using this Ridge roundabout enclave to the parliament house and seeing the works done in and around the AU Square, gets me more motivated to keep moving on the campaign. We will surely get there,” the Regional Minister added.

Present at the commissioning events were notable dignitaries including; Accra Mayor, Hon. Elizabeth Sackey, the Regional Police Commander and the Municipal Chief Executive Korle Klottey, Hon.
