Serie A: Juventus Triumphs in Derby, AC Milan Stumbles in Thrilling Draw
Juventus edged a tense derby against city rivals Torino 2-0 on Saturday to move within one point of the summit of Serie A, while AC Milan dropped points in an entertaining draw at Cagliari.
Strikes in both halves from Timothy Weah and Kenan Yildiz were enough to give Juventus victory over their fellow side from Turin, sending the Old Lady up to third in the table with 24 points. This victory puts Juventus level on points with champions Inter Milan in second and just one behind league leaders Napoli.
While Juventus secures a position in the Champions League places, they could still drop out as Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Lazio trail them by just two points.
In contrast, Torino’s form has significantly declined, with only one win in their last seven league outings, leaving them in 11th place, 10 points adrift of Juventus.
The deadlock was broken early when Weah tapped into an open net after a goalkeeper error. Yildiz sealed the victory with a header six minutes from time.
Meanwhile, AC Milan faced a setback, twice throwing away leads in a 3-3 draw with Cagliari. The Rossoneri remain seventh, four points off the Champions League places and seven behind Napoli.
Rafael Leao scored twice for Milan, but defensive struggles allowed Cagliari to equalize twice, including a stunning volley from Gabriele Zappa in the dying moments of the match. Coach Paulo Fonseca lamented the defensive issues that cost his side vital points.
In other action, Parma came from behind to defeat bottom-of-the-table Venezia 2-1, moving them to 14th place.
Looking ahead, the highlight of the weekend will be the clash between 2023 Scudetto winners Napoli and reigning champions Inter Milan.
