SIM Cards to be disconnected on November 1
MTN Ghana is urging customers who have not completed their SIM Card registration with the Ghana Card to do so by October 31, 2022, to avoid service disconnection.
In a statement, MTN said, per the directive of the Ministry of Communications and Digitization, “MTN may be required to disconnect the services of customers who have not completed their registration by November 1, 2022.”
All SIM Card holders are required to completed two stages of registration by November 1, 2022, for their SIM cards to stay active.
Stage one is the linking of SIM card to Ghana Card by dialling *404# and following the prompts.
Stage two requires SIM card holders to either go to their service provider or to the SIM Registration App for a biometric data capture to complete the registration process.
Communications and Digitalization Minister, Ursula Owusu recently announced that over 23.7 million SIM cards were at risk of being deactivated. They comprise of 10 million partially registered (stage one) and 13.7 million completely unregistered SIM cards.
MTN Ghana is therefore urging its customers to complete their registration by visiting any MTN Agent Point, Service Center, Connect Store, or download the self-service app from play store and capture their biometrics.
Chief Sales and Distribution Officer of MTN Ghana, Shaibu Haruna said, “We still have a significant number of customers who have either not linked their cards or have not completed registration. We are encouraging every customer to use any of our channels, including the self-service app to complete their registration”.
He said customers can check the status of their registration by dialling *400# to confirm if their SIM cards have been linked ahead of the biometric capture, adding that a “B-Cap Yes” response or feedback means a customer is fully registered.
Shaibu Haruna said any other response, apart from “B-Cap Yes” means that holder of the SIM needs to act now and complete the registration process latest by October 31, 2022.
The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization announced the mandatory registration of all SIM cards in Ghana in October 2021. The exercise is scheduled to end on October 31, 2022.
