Tyson Fury unconcerned with Usyk’s latest taunt, focused more on money and venue
Oleksandr Usyk’s latest social media taunt of Tyson Fury doesn’t concern the WBC heavyweight champion. Fury says his only focus is on how much money he’ll be getting for the fight and where is the venue for where the contest takes place.
IBF, WBA & WBO champion Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) posted on Twitter earlier today with the following warning/taunt of the chubby-bellied Fury:
“Hey, belly, I’m coming for you,” Usyk said on social media today, telling Tyson Fury that he’s next.
At this point, the fight still hasn’t been made, and Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) is beginning to lose patience with the glacial pace of the negotiation.
Although Fury hasn’t begun issuing deadlines, as he did with the Anthony Joshua negotiations, one gets the sense that they’re just around the corner.
Fury arguably destroyed his chances for a fight with Joshua with his strict deadlines, which led to him missing out on a match that would have made tons of money.
Instead of fighting Joshua, Fury did his old friend, 39-year-old journeyman Derek Chisora a favor by giving him a big payday he didn’t deserve.
Obviously, if Fury wasn’t already hugely wealthy, he would have stuck it out in the negotiations with Joshua because the money would have been out of this world good, and his popularity would have soared.
“I don’t make anything about it. It’s not really about what Usyk wants, or Usyk does. It’s about getting this fight in a location and a date nailed down,” said Fury to iFL TV, when asked about his reaction to Usyk taunting him on social media.
“I don’t care what Usyk says or what he’s going to do or how he’s going to beat me up or what he’s going to say to me. What’s really important is where is the venue and how much money I’m getting.
“The rest of it I’ll do easy anyway. Boxing is what I do. It’s quite difficult at the moment because I keep reading, seeing all these things, ‘It’s going to be signed next week; it’s going to be announced next week.’ I’m still waiting for next week to come.
“It’s like tomorrow never comes, so we’ll see. We’ll see next week and see what happens. Hopefully, fingers crossed, we get an announcement next week,” said a frustrated-sounding Fury.
