UCL Draw: Real Madrid face P.S.G, Chelsea draw Lille
The draw for the round of 16 ties of this season’s UEFA Champions league took place today in Nyon, Switzerland.
Ahead of the draw, 16 teams had qualified from the group stages, with two teams picked each from every group occupying spaces of seeded and unseeded teams.
Arguably, the biggest tie of the round, Paris Saint Germain will come up against record holders Real Madrid as Lionel Messi returns to the Santiago Bernabeu, this time around not in a Barcelona shirt.
Manchester United will square off against Spanish champions Atletico de Madrid with Ronaldo facing off against one of his usual casualties.
After becoming the first English side to win all group games in the Champions League, Liverpool take on Italian champions Inter Milan.
Last season’s winners and defending champions Chelsea were drawn against French champions LOSC Lille.
Runner ups Manchester City will come up against Portugese champions Sporting Club de Portugal.
The round of 16 ties are set to take place over two legs, with seeded teams – or teams that finished top of their respective groups – playing at home in the second legs of each draw.
The first legs are scheduled for 15/16/22/23 February, with the second legs on 8/9/15/16 March with kick-offs at 20:00 GMT.
The ‘away goals rule’ has been removed, so ties level after 180 minutes will go to extra time irrespective of the number of goals each team has scored at home and away.
If the teams still cannot be separated after the additional 30 minutes, the tie goes to a penalty shoot-out.
