Uganda to reopen tourism, travel, other sectors of economy in January 2022
Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has announced that the country’s economy will fully reopen in January 2022.
Museveni said this in his address to the nation on Thursday night.
He noted that the government decided to reopen every area of the economy due to availability and access to the Covid-19 vaccines.
He said that by December 2021, Uganda will have acquired 23 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines.
The Uganda President said the vaccines is expected to be sufficient for citizens and frontline health workers.

“This will be sufficient to vaccinate 12 million people, including the estimated 4.8 million front line workers and vulnerable people, setting us on a path of fully opening up the country,” Museveni said.
“I am here telling all Ugandans that vaccines for all frontline workers are now available. Walk to the health centre, be carried by bazukulu and go by bicycle.”
Museveni also disclosed that Uganda schools will reopen in January irrespective of the vaccination rate in the country.
He stated that the vaccination of teachers, non-teaching staff, 330,000 students aged 18 years and above, plus all the other priority populations will be ensured by the government.
The Uganda President urged citizens to get vaccinated, saying the moral responsibility to be safe and healthy is in their hands.
