- ADB Congratulates Prof Denis Aheto on Appointment as UCC Vice Chancellor
The Agricultural Development Bank PLC has congratulated Professor Denis Aheto on his appointment as Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, describing his elevation as a well-deserved recognition of his academic leadership, commitment to excellence and dedication to student development.
The message was delivered during a courtesy call on the newly appointed Vice Chancellor by the Bank’s Deputy Managing Director in charge of Services, Professor Ferdinand Ahiakpor. During the visit, ADB presented a commemorative portrait to Prof Aheto as a symbol of goodwill, appreciation and confidence in his leadership.
Prof Ahiakpor commended the new Vice Chancellor for his contributions to academia, research and institutional development, noting that his experience and vision position him to guide UCC into a new era of growth.
“Professor Denis Aheto’s appointment comes at a critical time when higher education institutions must adapt to evolving global realities,” the ADB Deputy Managing Director said.
“His proven commitment to academic excellence, student success, and impactful research gives confidence that UCC will continue to strengthen its position as one of Africa’s leading universities,” he added.
Prof Ahiakpor, himself an economics professor and former lecturer of UCC, said he was optimistic that Prof Aheto’s tenure would deepen the university’s research capabilities, expand industry collaboration and support innovative learning approaches.
He said Ghana’s higher education institutions must increasingly produce graduates equipped for national development, enterprise creation and global competitiveness.
“The university has gained a leader with a proven commitment to academic excellence and student growth,” he stated.
“May your tenure bring bold innovation, stronger research, and a legacy that elevates Ghana’s higher education,” Prof Ahiakpor added.
The visit also served as an opportunity for ADB to reaffirm its commitment to strategic partnerships that support education and human capital development across the country.
Prof Ahiakpor said investment in knowledge, innovation and youth empowerment remains essential to Ghana’s long-term progress, particularly at a time when universities are expected to play a stronger role in research, entrepreneurship and national transformation.
In his response, Prof Aheto expressed appreciation to ADB for the gesture and goodwill.
He highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and corporate organisations, especially in advancing research, entrepreneurship, innovation and national development.
ADB wished the Vice Chancellor a successful and impactful tenure, expressing confidence that his leadership would leave a lasting legacy at the University of Cape Coast.
The visit underscored the longstanding relationship between ADB and the academic community, as well as the Bank’s continued support for excellence in leadership, education and national development.
Other ADB management officials present included Papa Arko Ayiah, Head of AML and Compliance; Joseph Ahinful Biney, Assistant Area Manager for Central and Western; and Justina Yiadom-Boakye, Branch Manager of ADB’s UCC Branch.
