ECG monthly revenue mobilisation surge by 166% over digitalisation drive – Dr Bawumia
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the nation’s primary power distributor, has experienced a seismic boost in its monthly revenue, soaring beyond expectations, following a successful digitalization drive orchestrated by the government.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made this revelation during his address at the prestigious National Development Conference themed “Moral Vision and National Development.”
According to Dr. Bawumia, the company’s once-monthly revenue of GHS 450 million has witnessed an astonishing increase of over 100 per cent, now standing tall at a remarkable GHS 1.2 billion. This phenomenal financial transformation comes as a result of the government’s steadfast commitment to implementing cutting-edge digital solutions aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency in the economic landscape.
The Vice President further highlighted the success story of the passport office, which also underwent a similar digitalization process, experiencing a substantial surge in its revenue collection. Previously at GHS 1 million per month, the passport office’s revenue catapulted to an impressive GHS 65 million, a testament to the tangible impact of digitization initiatives across various sectors.
Dr. Bawumia’s address at the conference shed light on the government’s proactive approach to identifying and resolving discrepancies in revenue generation. Prior to the digitalization drive, concerns arose over the consistency of ECG’s revenues despite an increase in customer base. However, with decisive intervention by the government, the issue was confronted and remedied, leading to a momentous revenue surge.
The Vice President acknowledged the challenges faced during the digitalization process, with allegations of sabotage by some ECG staff attempting to hinder progress with malware. Nevertheless, the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability prevailed as they involved the National Security to tackle the problem, ultimately resulting in the significant revenue upswing for the power distributor.
Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to harmonize data from various institutions to bolster developmental initiatives and ensure efficient governance. Uniquely identifying individuals is a key strategy employed to curb misconduct and enhance responsible management across sectors.
The National Development Conference organised by the Church of Pentecost underscored the importance of preserving Ghana’s intrinsic values in the face of global influences. The conference provided a platform for leaders to stress the significance of ethical considerations in the nation’s development trajectory.
