- GPL Final Day Set for Top-Four and Survival Drama as Medeama Visit Hearts
The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season will reach its final day on Sunday, with the title already secured by Medeama SC but major questions still unresolved in the race for top-four positions and the battle to avoid relegation.
Medeama have already been crowned champions after an impressive campaign built on attacking strength, consistency and a league-leading return of 50 goals. But while the Tarkwa-based side have settled the title race, the final round still carries major consequences across several venues.
At the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak will host the newly crowned champions in one of the weekend’s headline fixtures. The Phobians are chasing a top-four finish but head into the game with only one victory in their last five matches.
Hearts’ season has been defined by defensive resilience and attacking frustration. They have conceded only 13 goals, one of the best defensive records in the league, but have scored just 21 goals, the lowest tally in the division. Their home record against Medeama offers some encouragement, with four wins in their last five home league meetings against the champions.
Medeama, however, arrive in Accra full of confidence after sealing the title with a 5-2 win over Heart of Lions. The champions will be eager to end the season with another statement performance.
Elsewhere, Asante Kotoko face a tense final-day test against relegation-threatened Swedru All Blacks at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Kotoko’s top-four hopes appear slim after an inconsistent season, but they have remained strong at home, winning nine of their 16 home matches and scoring 30 goals.
For Swedru All Blacks, the stakes are far higher. The visitors sit just one point above the relegation zone and may need a positive result in Kumasi to preserve their top-flight status after a difficult return to the Premier League.
Young Apostles also face a decisive survival battle when they take on FC Samartex 1996. The Wenchi-based side are just one point above the drop zone but will draw confidence from a strong home run that includes five straight victories. Samartex, meanwhile, remain in contention for a top-four finish and will be looking to close the season strongly.
Vision FC enter the final day three points clear of danger after a crucial win over Nations FC. A home victory against Aduana FC could confirm their safety, but Aduana still have top-four ambitions and remain in the hunt for continental qualification.
Nations FC face one of the most important matches of the weekend when they travel to Karela United. Karela have been strong at home in Tamale, losing only once all season, while Nations FC sit inside the relegation zone and may need victory, plus favourable results elsewhere, to survive.
Second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars will look to end their campaign on a high when they host already relegated Eleven Wonders at Duns Park. Gold Stars remain unbeaten at home this season and will be heavy favourites against a Wonders side that has endured a difficult return to the top flight.
There is also a top-half and continental subplot in the meeting between Basake Holy Stars and Dreams FC. Holy Stars are looking to secure a top-half finish, while Dreams arrive in strong form after winning four of their last five matches and remain within touching distance of the top four.
The final day therefore offers a fitting close to a season of contrasting fortunes. Medeama have already written their championship story, but for clubs chasing top-four places and others fighting relegation, Sunday will decide whether the campaign ends in relief, regret or survival drama.
