GSE records substantial decrease in trading volume and value on Wednesday
The stock market on Wednesday witnessed a significant slowdown in both trading volume and value. A mere 26,476 shares exchanged hands, valued at GH¢ 47,946.72, marking a substantial drop of 92.46% in volume and a 95.36% decrease in value compared to the preceding trading session.
This subdued activity was spread across fourteen different stocks, with MTNGH emerging as the dominant player in terms of trading volume. Notably, 5,005 shares of RBGH, valued at GH¢2,502.50, secured the second position in the trading rankings.
GCB managed to post a modest gain of GH¢0.01, closing at GH¢3.51, while GOIL experienced a decrease of GH¢0.02, concluding the day at GH¢1.50. This market movement had a minor impact on the overall market capitalization, causing a marginal decline to GH¢73.91 billion.
The benchmark index, GSE-Composite Index, saw a dip of 0.48 points, closing at 3,141.18 points, thereby delivering a year-to-date return of 28.53%. In contrast, the Financial Stocks Index managed to buck the trend by edging up 0.46 points, closing at 1,947.53 points, although it has incurred a year-to-date loss of -5.12%.
