  • GSE Weekly Turnover Rises to GH¢125.85 Million as Kasapreko Dominates Trading

Trading activity on the Ghana Stock Exchange rose sharply in the week ending May 26, 2026, with market volume jumping more than threefold as investors increased activity in selected counters, led by Kasapreko PLC and other high-performing stocks.

According to the GSE Equities Market Weekly Trade Summary for May 22 to 26, total volume traded increased to 43.21 million shares, compared with 13.36 million shares in the previous week, representing a rise of 223.46%.

Value traded also improved, rising 15.51% to GH¢125.85 million, from GH¢108.95 million in the prior week.

Despite the strong improvement in trading activity, the broader market ended marginally softer. Market capitalisation dipped 0.07% to GH¢288.05 billion, from GH¢288.24 billion a week earlier.

The GSE Composite Index closed the week at 14,766.82 points, down 0.02% from 14,769.27 points, while the GSE Financial Stock Index declined 1.67% to 8,254.88 points, from 8,395.13 points.

Year-to-date, however, the market remains strongly positive, with the Composite Index up 68.37%, the Financial Stock Index up 77.63%, and market capitalisation up 67.43%.

The Food and Beverage sector dominated the week’s activity, accounting for 30.48 million shares, representing 70.54% of total market volume. In value terms, the sector recorded GH¢66.26 million, equivalent to 52.65% of total turnover.

Kasapreko PLC was the week’s most active counter by both value and volume. It recorded GH¢65.85 million in value traded and 30.45 million shares in volume, making it the clear driver of the week’s market activity.

MTN Ghana followed with GH¢35.54 million in value traded and 5.49 million shares in volume. Ecobank Ghana recorded GH¢7.93 million in value, while GCB Bank and ZEN Petroleum Holdings PLC recorded GH¢6.21 million and GH¢2.43 million, respectively.

By volume, Intravenous Infusions PLC followed Kasapreko and MTN Ghana with 3.02 million shares, while CALBank and Ecobank Transnational Incorporated traded 2.58 million and 504,811 shares, respectively.

Sectoral value traded also showed the dominance of consumer-linked activity during the week. Food and Beverage led with GH¢66.26 million, followed by ICT with GH¢35.56 million and Finance with GH¢20.82 million. Insurance, Distribution, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Mining and ETFs recorded more modest trading values.

Price movements were broadly positive, with the average price change for the week standing at 2.83%.

Intravenous Infusions PLC led the gainers, rising 23.08% to close at GH¢0.16, from GH¢0.13 the previous week. Clydestone Ghana PLC followed with an 18.00% gain to GH¢2.95, while ZEN Petroleum Holdings PLC advanced 9.90% to close at GH¢10.99.

GCB Bank also gained 8.33%, closing at GH¢39.00, while SIC Insurance Company PLC rose 7.68% to GH¢6.03. Kasapreko PLC added 4.19%, closing the week at GH¢1.99, while MTN Ghana gained 0.78% to GH¢6.46.

Societe Generale Ghana PLC also posted a marginal gain of 0.15%, closing at GH¢6.80.

On the losing side, Ecobank Ghana recorded the steepest decline, falling 13.67% to GH¢33.67, from GH¢39.00. Republic Bank Ghana lost 8.92%, closing at GH¢4.39, while Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC declined 7.70% to GH¢11.99.

CALBank slipped 1.22%, Standard Chartered Bank Ghana fell 0.52%, and Ecobank Transnational Incorporated declined 0.44%.

The week’s activity was strongest on May 22, when turnover value reached GH¢48.92 million on volume of 18.81 million shares. Trading value moderated in subsequent sessions, with GH¢31.58 million recorded on May 23, GH¢16.13 million on May 24, GH¢13.97 million on May 25 and GH¢15.26 million on May 26.

The latest weekly performance points to a market still supported by strong year-to-date gains, but with investors becoming more selective after a sustained rally earlier in the year.

While the Composite Index ended the week almost flat and financial stocks weakened, the surge in volume and value traded suggests continued investor interest in liquid counters and newly active stocks, particularly Kasapreko, MTN Ghana and ZEN Petroleum.
