- Kasapreko Gains 10.00% on First Trading Day as GSE Turnover Hits GHS 46.38 million
Trading activity on the Ghana Stock Exchange opened the week on a strong note on Monday, June 15, 2026, with total market turnover reaching GHS 46.38 million as investors exchanged 4.27 million shares across the market.
The session was dominated by heavy trading in GCB Bank PLC and MTN Ghana, which together accounted for the overwhelming share of market value, while newly listed Kasapreko PLC made a strong debut, closing 10.00% above its listing price.
According to the official list for the 7,232nd trading session, total volume traded stood at 4,274,211 shares, with total value traded reaching GHS 46,382,146.05.
GCB Bank emerged as the biggest contributor to market turnover, with 793,567 shares valued at GHS 28.57 million changing hands. The stock closed unchanged at GHS 36.00.
GCB alone accounted for approximately 61.60% of total market value traded, underscoring the bank’s continued importance to liquidity on the local bourse.
MTN Ghana followed with 2.30 million shares valued at GHS 14.86 million, making it the most actively traded stock by volume and the second-largest contributor by value.
MTN Ghana closed at GHS 6.45, up GHS 0.03 from its previous VWAP of GHS 6.42, representing a 0.47% price gain.
Together, GCB Bank and MTN Ghana accounted for GHS 43.43 million of the day’s total turnover, representing approximately 93.64% of total market value traded.
The concentration of trading in the two counters shows that while overall market turnover was strong, liquidity remained heavily skewed toward a few high-capitalisation and investor-favoured equities.
The session also marked the first trading day for Kasapreko PLC following its listing on the main market of the GSE.
Kasapreko opened at GHS 1.20 and closed at GHS 1.32 after recording 279,318 shares traded, valued at GHS 368,699.76.
The company’s GHS 0.12 price gain represented a 10.00% increase, making it one of the strongest performers of the day and signalling healthy early investor interest in the newly listed consumer goods company.
Kasapreko’s market debut comes after its initial public offering attracted significant investor demand, reinforcing expectations that the listing could add fresh momentum to Ghana’s equities market.
The company’s early trading performance will be closely watched by investors, especially as the market assesses liquidity, demand depth and price discovery in the days following its admission to the exchange.
Other notable price gainers included Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, SIC Insurance Company PLC and Clydestone Ghana PLC.
ETI rose by GHS 0.16 to close at GHS 2.25, after 387,529 shares worth GHS 873,525.28 were traded. This represented a price increase of 7.66% from the previous VWAP of GHS 2.09.
SIC Insurance gained GHS 0.25 to close at GHS 5.18, representing a 5.07% increase. The stock recorded 33,539 shares traded, valued at GHS 172,107.95.
Clydestone also advanced by GHS 0.05 to close at GHS 2.50, reflecting a 2.04% gain after 1,087 shares worth GHS 2,717.50 were traded.
Benso Palm Plantation was the only decliner on the day, slipping marginally by GHS 0.01 to close at GHS 79.99. The counter recorded 3,026 shares traded, valued at GHS 242,050.00.
The broader market showed limited price movement across most counters, with several equities closing unchanged despite modest trading activity.
CalBank recorded 362,501 shares valued at GHS 279,392.55, closing unchanged at GHS 0.77, while Atlantic Lithium traded 22,249 shares worth GHS 188,226.54 and closed unchanged at GHS 8.46.
GOIL also closed unchanged at GHS 7.50 after 26,773 shares valued at GHS 200,797.50 were traded.
ZEN Petroleum Holdings PLC recorded 9,977 shares traded, valued at GHS 99,770.00, and closed unchanged at GHS 10.00.
Societe Generale Ghana also remained flat at GHS 6.80, with 27,029 shares worth GHS 183,797.20 changing hands.
The day’s trading pattern suggests that investor interest remains concentrated in liquid financial and telecom counters, while selective interest is beginning to emerge around new listings and recently active stocks.
GCB Bank’s dominance by value points to continued institutional activity in the banking sector, while MTN Ghana’s strong volume reinforces its position as one of the most actively traded equities on the market.
Kasapreko’s first-day performance adds a fresh consumer-sector story to the market and could help broaden investor attention beyond the traditional banking, telecom and petroleum counters.
Market analysts say the strong debut by Kasapreko is significant because it comes at a time when the GSE is seeking to rebuild primary market momentum after several years of limited new listings.
The return of IPO activity has created renewed optimism about the Exchange’s ability to attract indigenous Ghanaian companies looking for long-term capital.
However, analysts caution that sustaining market confidence will depend on post-listing liquidity, corporate disclosures, earnings performance and the ability of new issuers to meet investor expectations.
For retail investors, Kasapreko’s 10.00% first-day gain may reinforce appetite for new listings, particularly where companies have strong brands, clear growth prospects and wide public visibility.
The session also reflected the continued strength of market turnover in a year marked by increased investor participation and improved activity across selected counters.
Although most stocks remained unchanged, the strong value traded on the day indicates that investors continue to position around key liquid equities.
The performance of GCB, MTN Ghana and Kasapreko will likely shape sentiment in the coming sessions, especially as market participants assess whether Monday’s turnover strength can be sustained.
For now, the GSE’s June 15 session delivered three clear signals: GCB remains the dominant value driver, MTN Ghana continues to anchor liquidity by volume, and Kasapreko has entered the market with strong early investor support.
With total turnover above GHS 46.00 million and a newly listed stock gaining 10.00% on debut, the market opened the week with a firm indication that investor interest in Ghanaian equities remains active.
