- MTN Ghana Leads GSE Trading as Market Turnover Rises to GHS 17.15 million
Trading activity on the Ghana Stock Exchange improved at the close of the June 19, 2026 session, with total market turnover rising to GHS 17.15 million as MTN Ghana dominated both volume and value traded. Official market data from trading session 7236 showed that a total of 2.45 million shares changed hands, valued at GHS 17.15 million.
The session was largely driven by Scancom PLC, operators of MTN Ghana, which traded 1.88 million shares worth GHS 12.10 million. This represented 76.90% of total volume traded and 70.54% of total market value, underlining the telecoms stock’s continued role as the most liquid counter on the local bourse.
MTN Ghana, however, closed slightly lower at GHS 6.41 from a previous VWAP closing price of GHS 6.44, representing a decline of GHS 0.03. The stock opened at GHS 6.44 and recorded its last transaction price at GHS 6.46, but its VWAP closing price reflected the broader average of trades during the session.
GCB Bank followed as the second largest stock by value, trading 98,700 shares worth GHS 3.55 million. The bank closed unchanged at GHS 36.00.
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated was also active, recording 165,527 shares valued at GHS 377,406.91. ETI gained GHS 0.08 to close at GHS 2.28, after opening at GHS 2.20 and recording a last transaction price of GHS 2.29.
The gain extended ETI’s strong year-to-date performance, with the stock trading within a year range of GHS 0.76 and GHS 2.82.
CAL Bank also recorded significant activity, with 205,913 shares changing hands for GHS 167,252.04. The stock rose by GHS 0.04 to close at GHS 0.82, compared with its previous VWAP close of GHS 0.78.
The financial sector remained an important source of activity during the session, with Access Bank, CAL Bank, Ecobank Ghana, ETI, GCB Bank, Republic Bank Ghana, Standard Chartered Bank and Société Générale Ghana all recording trades.
Access Bank traded 5,396 shares worth GHS 172,132.40 and closed unchanged at GHS 31.90. Republic Bank Ghana traded 11,403 shares valued at GHS 54,962.46, also closing unchanged at GHS 4.82.

Among the gainers, SIC Insurance recorded the strongest absolute move, rising by GHS 0.50 to close at GHS 5.60. The stock traded 26,550 shares worth GHS 148,680.00. Its performance continues to reflect strong investor interest in insurance counters this year, with SIC trading within a year range of GHS 1.20 and GHS 6.03.
Kasapreko PLC also advanced, gaining GHS 0.17 to close at GHS 1.91. The newly listed beverage company traded 6,865 shares worth GHS 13,112.15. The stock has continued to attract market attention since listing, with its year-low standing at GHS 1.20 and year-high at GHS 1.91.
Ghana Oil Company also edged up by GHS 0.01 to close at GHS 7.50, after trading 21,902 shares valued at GHS 164,264.58.
On the losing side, Ecobank Ghana recorded the steepest decline, falling by GHS 1.00 to close at GHS 39.00. The stock traded 4,323 shares worth GHS 168,597.00.
TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana also declined, losing GHS 0.29 to close at GHS 36.00. The stock traded 2,045 shares valued at GHS 73,796.84.
Beyond the major counters, Enterprise Group recorded 4,913 shares valued at GHS 49,375.65 and closed unchanged at GHS 10.05. Fan Milk traded 360 shares worth GHS 4,802.40 and closed unchanged at GHS 13.34.
Zen Petroleum Holdings Plc traded 692 shares worth GHS 6,920.00, closing unchanged at GHS 10.00. The counter continues to trade within a year range of GHS 5.00 and GHS 12.61.
Other counters recorded marginal trades. Atlantic Lithium traded 120 shares worth GHS 1,015.20, while Asante Gold Corporation recorded one share valued at GHS 8.89. Benso Oil Palm Plantation traded six shares worth GHS 479.94, while Tullow Oil recorded two shares valued at GHS 23.84.
On the Ghana Alternative Market, Hords Plc was the only traded counter, recording 684 shares worth GHS 75.24 and closing unchanged at GHS 0.11.
No trades were recorded in the NewGold ETF, preference shares or AngloGold Ashanti Depositary Shares.
The session produced a mixed market tone. Four counters gained CAL Bank, ETI, GOIL, Kasapreko and SIC while MTN Ghana, Ecobank Ghana and TotalEnergies closed lower. Most listed equities ended the session unchanged.
The data suggests that liquidity remains concentrated in a few large counters, particularly MTN Ghana and GCB Bank. Together, the two stocks accounted for GHS 15.65 million, or 91.25% of total market value traded.
While the rise in turnover is positive for market activity, the concentration of trades shows that broader participation across the equities market remains limited.
The June 19 session therefore points to a market where liquidity is improving but remains narrowly driven by a small group of high-interest counters.
