A new bilateral trade agreement between Ghana and the United Kingdom will be signed on March 2, 2021.
This is according to the Minister-designate for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanteng.
Mr Kyeremanteng made the disclosure during his vetting with the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
According to him, the new trade pact is necessitated by some ‘disagreements’ over the initial bilateral trade deal signed by both countries on December 31, 2020, on the eve of the UK’s exit from the European Union (EU).
These ‘disagreements’ the Minister-designate noted have been largely resolved.
The new trade pact when signed is expected to take effect starting March 5, 2021.
“So where we are now is that the President has given an executive approval for the agreement and forwarded the agreement to Parliament, the UK has also signaled that on March 2, both countries will sign the new Ghana-UK trade agreement which will take effect hopefully from March 5, 2021,” he told the Appointments Committee.
The trade agreement will provide duty-free and quota-free access for exporters and importers of both countries.
