President Akufo-Addo applauds IMF support amid economic crisis, hails economic turnaround

President Akufo-Addo has lauded the nation’s prudent decision to seek assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), citing notable improvements in key economic indicators.

In a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at the Jubilee House, the President underscored the positive impact of the IMF support program on the country’s economic landscape.

President Akufo-Addo attributed recent achievements such as the decline in inflation and the stabilization of the local currency directly to the IMF’s assistance. These outcomes stand as testament to the efficacy of the IMF program in navigating Ghana through challenging economic terrain.

The President expressed contentment with the outcomes of the IMF bailout, noting the pivotal role it played in orchestrating a significant turnaround in Ghana’s economic fortunes. Despite facing formidable economic headwinds, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed the wisdom of seeking IMF support back in July 2022.

Acknowledging the dire circumstances prevailing at the time of the decision, the President asserted that Ghana has reaped tangible benefits from its collaboration with the IMF.

President Akufo-Addo’s remarks reflect Ghana’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships for economic resilience and progress. The meeting with the IMF Managing Director was to recognize achievements, chart future strategies, and reiterate Ghana’s dedication to fostering a stable and prosperous economy through collaborative efforts.
