President directs GOIL to reduce fuel price by 15 pesewas starting today
The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has directed the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) to reduce the price of fuel at its pumps by 15 pesewas effective today, December 7, 2021.
The price reduction follows a crunch meeting between him and the leadership of transport operators in the country at the Presidency on Monday evening.
Head of Communications at the GPRTU, Abass Imoro, making the disclosure in an interview on Monday, revealed the government is further committed to reviewing taxes on fuel in the mid-year budget review.
According to Mr Imoro, leadership of the Union are satisfied with the outcome of the meeting and urge their members to resume work this morning.

On the back of the 15 pesewas reduction in fuel price, GOIL will this morning, be selling a litre of fuel for GHS 6.70 pesewas down from the previous price of GHS 6.85 pesewas.
According to Kennedy Osei Nyarko, Chairman of Parliament’s Committee on Transport, government took this decision in response to the demands of commercial drivers who embarked on a sit-down strike over hikes in fuel prices.
Also speaking in an interview on Monday evening, Mr Nyarko was hopeful that the move will force other Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to also reduce their prices.
“I will not be surprised they [Goil] will be taking about 15 pesewas per litre each off the products. That’s the information that I’m getting. I will not be surprised it will drop to about GHS6.7 tomorrow morning,” he said.
The appeal to scrap the taxes on petroleum products is estimated to reduce fuel prices by 25.44 percentage points; bearing in mind that fuel prices, between January and December 2021, have witnessed an astronomical rise of 39.92 percent.
