Tullow drilling six wells offshore Ghana
UK Independent Tullow says it intends to drill six additional wells in Ghana in 2022, as it continues to improve operational performance in all its assets in the country.
Jubilee expects to see three new wells drilled sometime this year. TEN operations equally will receive a boost with anticipated three wells, two to be drilled in the Ntomme riser basin area, while an additional one is being planned for Enyenra area during the second half of the year.
Tullow has contracted ultra deepwater drillship Maersk Venturer to drill wells at Jubilee and TEN till 2025.
The Jubilee improvement plan will include the installation of a water injector on-stream in the first quarter, which will provide pressure support to existing producers. This will be followed by a producer and a second water injector.
According to the company’s outlook for 2022, captured in a recent statement, the work programme for jubilee is anchored on delivering reliable-in-year production through continued infill drilling, as well as investment in projects that will access undeveloped resource that will drive meaningful production growth in subsequent years.
The investment will focus on new infrastructure to support the development of over 170 mmbbls gross Estimate Ultimate Recovery (EUR) in previously undeveloped areas in the eastern part of the field, the statement further said.
As for TEN, a coordinated effort to improve field performance is underway with plans to accelerate production from undeveloped resources in the Greater Ntomme and Tweneboa (GNT) areas, it said.
Thus, drilling in 2022 will focus on further defining future development plans to maximize production and the fields’ value potentials; comprising two strategic development wells to be drilled in the Ntomme riser basin area, while an additional well is planned in the Enyenra area in the second half of the year.
Tullow is also investing in the infrastructure required to allow these wells to be brought on stream by 2023.

Ghana’s assets continue to excite the oil firm and it has committed $270 million investments to Ghana alone in 2022. Tullow says it is prioritizing investments in high return opportunities in producing assets.
‘Increased year-on-year spend in Ghana is primarily due to investment in infrastructure for the Jubilee North East and South East areas that will lead to meaningful growth in production in these undeveloped parts of Jubilee are brought on stream from 2023 onwards,” the operational update noted.
Tullow increases Stakes at Jubilee, TEN The oil E&P firm also announced that it exercised its right to pre- emption in respect of the sale of Occidental Petroleum’s interest in the Jubilee and TEN fields to Kosmos Energy for an expected consideration of $150 million.
Tullow’s equity interests are expected to increase to 38.9% in the Jubilee field and 54.8% in the TEN fields when the transaction is concluded. Completion of the transaction remains subject to finalizing definitive agreements with Kosmos Energy/Anadarko WCTP Company, and securing approval from the Government of Ghana, the statement said.
Jubilee to be shut down for a two-week routine maintenance scheduled to take place in the second quarter of 2022 will disrupt operations at jubilee. The planned maintenance shutdown will impact output projected to average between 80 t0 84 kbopd.
The positive news is that the planned improvement will shore up gas production in the field, in line with the transition to Net Zero Company agenda by 2030 on its Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
The planned facility modification will support increased gas export capability and help towards the target of eliminating routine gas flaring in Ghana by 2025.
Other actions planned during the shutdown will focus on maintenance, integrity and reliability of the FPSO for the long term.
