  • GFA Gives Green Light to 14 Stadiums Ahead of 2026/27 Ghana Premier League

The Ghana Football Association has approved 14 venues for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season following inspections and clearance by its Club Licensing Department, setting the stage for the new domestic campaign.

The approved grounds are spread across several parts of the country and will host Premier League fixtures during the season. Their clearance follows the GFA’s venue inspection process, which is intended to ensure that clubs play matches at grounds meeting required licensing and operational standards.

Among the approved venues are some of Ghana’s most established football facilities, including the Accra Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale and Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

The University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra has also been approved, providing another major venue option in the capital alongside the Accra Sports Stadium.

In the Western part of the country, Duns Park in Bibiani, Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Sambreboi and the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa have all been cleared for Premier League action.

Other approved venues include Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem, Golden City Park in Berekum and Nana Boamah Darko II Park in Kukurantumi.

The GFA has also cleared the AAK II Sports Arena and Tuba Astro Turf for the upcoming season.

The 14 venues listed as approved are:

  • Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium — Tamale
  • Accra Sports Stadium — Accra
  • University of Ghana Sports Stadium — Accra
  • Duns Park — Bibiani
  • Nsenkyire Sports Arena — Sambreboi
  • TnA Stadium — Tarkwa
  • Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park — Bechem
  • AAK II Sports Arena
  • Tuba Astro Turf
  • Baba Yara Stadium — Kumasi
  • Golden City Park — Berekum
  • Nana Boamah Darko II Park — Kukurantumi
  • Len Clay Stadium — Obuasi

The source provided identifies these venues as having passed inspection and received clearance from the GFA Club Licensing Department. It lists 13 venue names despite describing the total as 14, meaning one approved venue appears to be missing from the published list supplied.

That discrepancy will be important to clarify before the season begins, particularly for clubs whose home grounds may depend on final licensing approval or alternative venue arrangements.

Venue licensing remains an important part of the administration of the Ghana Premier League because stadium conditions directly affect player safety, crowd management, broadcast quality and the overall match-day experience.

The approval of the country’s major national and regional stadiums should give the league a relatively broad geographical footprint, with top-flight matches set to be hosted in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Obuasi, Tarkwa, Bibiani, Sambreboi, Bechem, Berekum and Kukurantumi, among other locations.

For clubs, the venue approvals also provide greater certainty ahead of the season, allowing them to plan match-day operations, security, ticketing and travel around confirmed grounds.

The GFA’s next challenge will be ensuring that approved venues maintain the required standards throughout the campaign. Licensing approval at the start of a season does not remove the need for continued maintenance of pitches, dressing rooms, spectator areas and safety infrastructure.

The quality of playing surfaces will be particularly important. Concerns around pitch standards have frequently featured in Ghanaian football discussions, and the competitiveness of the Premier League will depend partly on clubs being able to play on surfaces that support both player safety and high-quality football.

The approval of 14 venues therefore represents more than an administrative exercise ahead of the 2026/27 season. It is also an early test of the league’s ability to provide consistent infrastructure across its various match centres.

With the new campaign approaching, attention will now turn to club allocations, fixture scheduling and whether the approved grounds can maintain the standards required once competitive football begins.
